I can’t believe it’s been so long since we’ve updated everyone! I’m due in a month already! I’ll do my best to sum up the last nine months.
My feelings as a pregnant woman -
I LOVE IT! I love everything about being pregnant and it has been so much fun. I have had some weird pains that I wasn’t expecting, but it’s all so interesting and amazing how God has made our bodies to do this! I love feeling Poptart move – he/she really likes his/her Dad – almost every time Marc feels the baby he gets a kick or a flip or a weird shaky thing. We are having another ultrasound next Tuesday to estimate how big the baby has gotten (although it can be up to 15% off). I’m hoping for an all natural delivery and no induction, but with the gestational diabetes the baby has a chance of growing too big.
Placenta problems – we had a bit of a scare with my 20 week ultrasound. They found something on my placenta (which they said probably was just from some hemorrhaging early on… and very normal), but they also said there were some ‘low lying vessels’ which was the scary part. They wanted to keep an eye on it and had me go to the parinatologist a month later to see if things moved. When she looked everything was fine (and we got to see our little poptart again!).
Gestational Diabetes – I had a standard glucose test that I wasn’t worried about at all and the nurse called me a few days later and said I failed it in flying colors. I was so depressed. Your score is supposed to be under 140 and if it’s over they have you come back for a more involved and longer test. I asked if I had to come back and she said that if the score was over 180 they just diagnose you and send you to the nutritionist. My score was 206! The good thing is that once we met with the nutritionist and I learned how to test my blood I’ve been doing great. I’ve been keeping my sugars under control so hopefully Poptart won’t get too big in there (that is one of the problems with having GD). Pricking my fingers isn’t very painful most of the time – it’s just easy to loose track of time and forget to do it. Speaking of… I need to test now! Ok. It was 85 – anything under 120 is good. Like I said… I’m doing a good job controlling my sugars :).
April SHOWERS!
Chicago - I feel so loved and so special. My mom, sister, and mother-in-law threw me an amazing shower. There were so many people there and everything was so beautiful and delicious and Poptart really made out! My Aunt Pam and cousin Sarah came in from the east coast just for the shower (and my cousin Scott came in, but he wasn’t at the shower) – and it was so good to see them all. Two of my friends from work – Tracy and Genia – drove in to Chicago from Madison to be there as well. There were so many people there… even people that I didn’t know! Marc and I were truly blown away and are so grateful to have such loving family and friends.
Surprise! - My friends from work threw me a surprise shower! It was the weekend after the shower in Chicago and Genia asked if I could check on her cat while she was gone for the weekend (she lives two houses away from me). Marc always comes with me and he changes the litter (I think I’m not supposed to while I’m pregnant?). It was his job to get me there right at 12:30 – we walk in and SURPRISE! I had never had any kind of surprise party before (and always had secretly wanted one) so I almost started crying right there! It was so sweet of Genia and all of them. The funny thing is that I hadn’t showered, brushed my teeth, or changed my shirt since the day before so I was a complete stinky mess, but I guess that’s what happens when you get surprised! It was so much fun and there was all this yummy food. I feel so lucky. OH and on top of it… when I went to work yesterday, all these people were apologizing to me because they couldn’t make it on Saturday to the party! Genia must have invited a ton of people.
So, I’ll try my best to update more often so you don’t have to read these long posts. AND I’ll have marc show me how to add pictures. He took some new pictures of my belly so we should get those up soon. I should take a picture right now – poptart is all on my right side – I’m very lopsided!
