Sometimes I wonder why I’m attracted to things outside of the norm. Have you ever heard of Elimination Communication? It’s usually referred to as EC and it’s basically communicating to your infant about their elimination needs. On the Diaper Free website it says:
“Rather than teaching a baby to eliminate into his or her intimate clothing and cleaning up after the fact, parents learn to listen and respond in the present moment to the baby’s needs and communication. In this way, parents lovingly meet their baby’s vital needs, enhance bonding, deepen their communication, avoid rashes and diaper changing struggles, bypass conventional toilet training, save money and the environment, and significantly reduce diaper use. ”
People who practice EC will often say that when you diaper a baby you are essentially ‘diaper training’ them – It is natural for all mammals to not soil themselves and by diapering you are teaching your child to ignore their natural instincts.
Anyway, the only reason I’m thinking about this is because every time I give Wren naked butt time she goes! So Marc said why don’t you just hold her over the toilet? So I’ve been trying and we’ll see what happens. I actually hold her over the sink so she can see herself in the mirror and usually she just smiles and laughs, but one time she pooped (one time out of 4).
So what does everyone think of this? Am I crazy? I think I’ll just casually try it and see what happens. I asked our pediatrician and she said she hasn’t had any of her patients try it and that it seems more like ‘parent training’ than anything.
Sorry – no pictures this time! (Although I did take a picture of her first poop in the sink! I’m pretty sure you don’t want to see it though…) By the way, Wren had her 4 month visit yesterday and she weighs 15 pounds even (71%) and is 24.75″ long (60%) and her head circumference is 40.7cm (34%)….. and I thought she had a big head!
